The Give Me Liberty! Program
The “Give Me Liberty!” award is a state-wide program for fifth graders in Utah. It is a patriotic program that seeks to familiarize students with some of the symbols, songs, and important documents four our state and country. There are twenty different requirements that can be passed off to 5th grade teachers and/or parents. This is not a mandatory or graded assignment, but an opportunity for students to learn more about their state and country.
There are three different levels or awards that students can reach as they complete the requirements of the Give Me Liberty program.
The Bronze level is awarded to students who complete five or more of the 15 primary requirements (found on page 2 of the GML booklet).
The Silver level is awarded to students completing ten or more of those requirements.
The Gold level is award to students who complete all 15 requirements. If a student completes three or more of the optional requirements (found on page 3 of the booklet) in addition to all 15 requirements are awarded a patriotic t-shirt in addition to the gold medal award.

- Recite: The symbols of the state of Utah
- Recite or Sing: Utah… This is the place!
- Recite: The preamble to the Constitution
- Locate: The U.S.A., all continents and oceans
- Locate: The major U.S. rivers
- Recite/Sing: The Star Spangled Banner
- Write: The Pledge of Allegiance
- Sign: The Pledge of Allegiance
- Locate & Name: The 50 States
- Locate & Name: The 50 States’ capitals
- Recite: The Gettysburg Address
- Answer Questions about our Presidents
At the conclusion of the school year there will be an assembly the 5th graders run to show their parents as well as the 4th graders what they have learned. They will recite various requirements from memory, conduct a flag ceremony, and receive the awards they earned during the school year.
